Social Change and the Hollywood Fishbowl

In Marxist ideology celebrities are seen as an “ideological state apparatus” who “create false class consciousness amongst the proletariat that they too can have fame and fortune.” Whether we’re moving closer to or further from a collection of Marxist nation-states, I’ll leave up to you. But let’s adopt this thought as our lens to take a look at Hollywood. This isn’t that different from the entertainment culture today. The CIA and FBI have widely been involved in the production and altering of movies and television in Hollywood for decades.

The actors and musicians who are considered the most successful, such as U2’s frontman Bono, are bolstered by their support of government organizations like the UN and NATO. And on a funny note: I live a stone-throw away Creative Artists Agency which has forged new ground partnering with Barack and Michelle Obama’s Higher Ground media company, which shows you:

- How to make global cuisine for a globalist society with a character named Waffles + Mochi. Waffles doesn’t even seem to comb his hair, given he has a waffle stuck in it.
- A comedic display of our all-encompassing federal government, which seems to grow larger in its functions with each frame.
- Michael Keaton as a coming-to-morals attorney calculating payment settlements for 911 victims’ families (!?)
- Which tax bracket you’re committed to until death with “We the People,” a cartoon indoctrination into a new America.

These showbiz pieces are reflective of the fishbowl that is the Hollywood scene. Government intertwines with agent and pop star, and the sirens of medical strangers picking up those you may have known never stops. It fits somehow with the back-and-forth of the clack of the pickle ball hitting the court. It all makes for a mess, sometimes beautiful, always heartbreaking. Those of us who keep going on the “scene,” whether in the forefront of the Met Ball or the background of the expensive editing computers, we never know quite why we do. It just seems too hard to go back.

I’ve noticed while I don’t have the same conception of fame and “making it,” Hollywood has still made me quite full of myself. My personality has changed in unexpected ways throughout the last year. For example, when people hurl insults or criticism at me online I find myself going into diatribes about how important my Art is and how I need a supportive community around me in order to help “nurture” it. None of that is untrue, but I’ve surprised myself at how easily I’ve started to look at myself as a “brand” and a “product.” While I used to make fun of celebrities who showed these elements of self-aggrandizement, I found the attitude (once I adopted it myself) to be extremely helpful. Could Ye have made all of his great art, music, fashion, iconic sneakers, sound and stage designs, interiors, and more without it? I don’t think so. Even if these very traits are the ones that get artists in trouble in terms of political correctness or even life mismanagement (my poor decisions reflect the most in how I treat myself), they are intrinsically an element of what makes the artist push past the boundaries as required to make great art.

What does fame mean when you can internet-famous?

For this point, most people say some crap about the internet revolution and how it’s changed everything. As someone who has had an inside view of “the internet phenomenon,” I can honestly tell you it is overblown in a lot of ways. What I mean is the revolution is often poorly organized and involves unnecessary org changes. When you apply this false glossy finish to internet fame, you see a lot of similarities.

You can gain a lot of followers and get offered some pretty sweet deals from companies looking to partner with your fanbase, but it’s hard to deny those public figures who are featured on mainstream media outlets and worshipped by Conde Nast have an easier time gaining online traction. There was talk of the internet celebrity overtaking traditional media. No such luck! In many ways, traditional press is still king or queen.

Nonetheless, we all have to figure it out. After all, I ran all the way across the desert to the Beverly and Hollywood Hills, and all I found was myself staring back at myself in a strange city— all my hopes, all my dreams, all my estimated opportunity, and just one place to go: up, wherever that may be.

It’s hard to picture financial articles as being evergreen content. However, things have gotten so exhaustingly unstable in the United States both socially and economically we thought it would be a good time to share an overview of ways you can prepare if s*** really hits the fan (I know, it’s hard to imagine it can get worse than mass poisoning of an entire global population with a virus that we later learn the “gain of function” of which is funded by our very own taxpayer money, but hang in there with me).

Many of our clients don’t like to be too dependent on banks (if dependent at all). Financial instability is something many of us have compartmentalized, despite it having ripped our lives apart time after time. So the saying goes— the truth always has its day in the sun. And the sun is brightly shining in our faces.

Here are the new rules of survival in this age of turmoil:

Cash. Have enough cash for at least a month for your basic needs. If you can accumulate more than that, great, but don’t depend on an ATM being accessible and on for you when you need it. The Federal Reserve, which is a body independent of the government, can and will stop the flow of currency to the public when it needs to implement a plan… whatever ridiculous plan they will come up with.
Basic goods. These are things you need for daily survival– think water, food, and medication you can’t live without. Some conservatives have even begun selling individual supplies of antibiotics in case you can’t get to the doctor or the pharmacy, or the pharmacy runs out (like in all the recent cases of drug shortages). Stock up as much as you can. This advice isn’t intended to fear-monger or scare anyone– it’s just a good idea to be prepared.
Gold, silver, and precious metal investment. Investing in gold can be a good way to diversify your portfolio and protect your wealth. Gold has been used as a store of value and a medium of exchange for thousands of years, and it is still considered a safe haven asset by many investors. Some points on how to invest:
1. One way to invest in gold is to buy physical gold, such as gold coins or bars. This can be a good option if you want to have direct ownership of the gold and the ability to store it yourself. However, buying physical gold also comes with costs such as storage fees and insurance, and it can be difficult to sell the gold when you want to liquidate your investment.
2. Another way to invest in gold is through exchange-traded funds (ETFs) that track the price of gold. These ETFs are traded on stock exchanges and provide a way to invest in gold without the need for physical ownership. Hip Hop’s Trump Relationship

If you’ve wanted to have a bad Thanksgiving throughout the past seven years, you pretty much know you could just mention Trump at the celebration table. The MAGA movement has created a MEGA stir, and the shiz is really hitting the fan now that Trump is the only former or sitting President to be indicted. As a side note, I want to thank all of the Twitter “experts” who called me a “Maggot” while researching this blog post. Wow, American discourse has really gotten special.

The mainstream media has repeatedly, since the run-up to the 2016 election, tried to neatly remind Americans of the dividing lines regarding race and party. The story goes like this: Black Americans have stayed loyal to their Democratic Party roots, while white Americans broke out like a group of lunatics (according to MSNBC and CNN) to do a white-people-gone-wild MAGA movement aimed at world domination and… we can’t forget… a resurgence of racism.

This narrative has started to fracture in a major way the last few years, however. Anecdotally, more TicToks have gone viral lately with Americans raging out against Democrats’ theft of money and resources in the inner-cities, or anywhere near the cities they run for that matter.

Statistically, even NBC news is starting to recognize the black coalition the Democrats have depended on for decades is bending more towards Trump¹. Why? Well, Americans are fed up. We’re on the brink of World War III, inflation is eating away at our lives, and the current President seems to only be interested in ice cream (which he says he keeps in his refrigerator, for some reason).

Plus, remember all those Trump shout-outs in great classic hip hop videos? It’s good to remember that where the black community goes from here remains in the hands of the black community (not the white political “leaders” who enjoyed calling inner-city children “superpredators” in the 90’s– you can look that one up and thank me later).

Before the social and political upheaval of COVID, party music circa the early 2000s was on the rise again (think R. Kelly’s “Ignition”— I know, I think back about jamming out to this one and.. it’s weird). Then the whole world changed. There’s no doubting we’re in a different era now post-COVID. If the first two years have been any indicator of what’s to come, the “Fourth Industrial Revolution” is going to be filled with mass layoffs of high-paying jobs, consolidation of world governance, and lots of conferences with stuck-up PhDs in fancy suits explaining how we’ve done everything wrong up until this point. Throw-back party jams just won’t pack the same punch. Plus, if WEF (the World Economic Forum) is any example music will be turned into a tool for reaching the goals of the Great Reset.

If an entity of change (typically a member of the establishment) wished to inspire a shift in thought in the music consumer, they would introduce an idea which results in cognitive dissonance— a piece of information which conflicts with your previously held beliefs and creates a fracture in the prism through which you see the world. This tension creates a dilemma. In some cases, you will declare the new idea as false and save your predefined set of beliefs. In others, you will shift your worldview and positions in order to make sense of the new information— essentially crafting yourself into a new person. The psychology of coping with cognitive dissonance requires readjustments to your mindset— and these mental maneuvers over time change your mentality. It’s not hard to see how this tool could be immorally manipulative in the hands of someone desiring to subdue a population, or more dramatically, transform it into a robot order-taking army of followers.

Looking to the future: A dialogue with AI

What better expert can you find on the future of music manipulation than AI? So we asked it some dark questions, starting with brainwashing. Here is what it responded with when we asked how music can be used for brainwashing:

“Music can be used for brainwashing in a variety of ways. For example, repetitive music can be used to create a trance-like state, which can then be used to implant ideas or messages into the listener’s subconscious. Additionally, certain musical tones and rhythms can be used to influence emotions, which can then be used to manipulate behavior. Finally, music can be used to create a sense of unity or belonging among a group of people, which can be used to reinforce certain beliefs and ideologies.”

Seems like AI has a pretty solid understanding of the concept— maybe a little too clear for our comfort in a futuristic world where they have dominion over our day to day.

..But now let’s turn to how music can be used as a social enforcer of norms and nationalism….

China and the Social Credit Score

China, and its social credit score, is often viewed as a model for the future by global leaders. China’s social credit score system is a set of rules and regulations that determine a person’s ability to access certain services or benefits in China. It assigns each individual a score based on their behavior, ranging from 700 to 950. This score is determined by monitoring an individual’s financial transactions, relations with government institutions and other forms of data collected from various sources. The higher the score, the more rights and privileges a person has. Conversely, the lower the score, the less rights and privileges they have. Examples of rewards for higher scores include discounts on insurance rates and travel costs. Punishments for lower scores include bans on internet access and travel, as well as blocking access to certain services.

Music as Governance

To understand how music can be used as a component of the social credit score, we have to first look at how music is a useful tool of the government. Let’s begin with something common and relatable: the national anthem. If you’re in the U.S., you’ll recall hearing the national anthem at school, before professional sports events, and at special memorial services. Our television sets are filled with football and basketball players, and elite politicians swelling with pride as the familiar notes float through our home speakers. It’s ceremonial. The greater the display of emotion, then the greater one can rank you on the patriotic scale.

But it goes beyond the typical anthem. The government can use music to control its citizens in a variety of ways. They can use it to spread propaganda, to encourage patriotism, to promote specific values and ideologies, to discourage certain behaviors, and to create a sense of unity among citizens. Music can also be used to create a sense of fear or to instill loyalty to the state. It can be used to promote certain political agendas, such as in the case of North Korea where the government uses music to promote its own ideology and to discourage citizens from listening to foreign music.

When you combine these tactics with modern technology, the results get more dramatic. We’re all familiar with the enticing drop of the personalized Spotify playlist list. From its official word, Spotify analyzes the listening behaviors of its millions of users including listening, skips, like patterns. However, it has become common knowledge how much data apps like Spotify can leverage when you sign in with your Facebook, Google, or Apple account. Essentially your entire browsing history can be used to determine your musical preferences and how to drive them forward to keep you engaged in the app.

Governments undoubtedly have their own agenda, and they aim to shape the collective consciousness to meet it. Your digital profile compiled among the mega tech giants feeding your log-in to music apps like Spotify will tell Spotify where you stand relative to the government’s cause of the day/month/year. Essentially Spotify may already be serving up tracks which alter your psychological attitudes towards certain causes. We live in unprecedented times in terms of how the Jungian collective consciousness can be molded by technology and drive your behavior.

Though looking into the future, AI will enable a much wider spread and lower-cost music-making, which could usher in an age of music that goes beyond the genres and sounds that we know today.
